Connect your knowledge base
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”A knowledge base gives the assistant reference material to retrieve before it answers. This approach is sometimes called RAG. RosettaChat currently connects to Marknest.
Prepare a Marknest API service base URL, an API key with access to the intended content, and an optional folder ID. Use the API service address supplied for your Marknest installation, not its marketing website or a document-sharing URL. The integration adds the API paths itself.
Prepare your content
Section titled “Prepare your content”- Create clear, focused entries for FAQs, product information, and support policies.
- Include conditions, exceptions, and relevant dates. Resolve conflicting versions.
- Publish the content you want the assistant to use. Drafts are excluded from retrieval.
- Prefer a dedicated folder containing only material appropriate for visitor answers. A folder narrows retrieval; it is not a substitute for restricting the API key’s access.
Manage and publish the source content in Marknest. The RosettaChat settings panel connects to it; it is not a document-upload editor.
Connect in RosettaChat
Section titled “Connect in RosettaChat”- Open Settings → Web chat widget → AI assistant as the workspace owner.
- Choose Knowledge base (marknest).
- Enter the API service base URL and API key in the Marknest section.
- Enter a folder ID to limit retrieval to that folder. Leaving it empty removes that folder restriction within the key’s accessible content.
- Click Save AI settings before testing. Test connection uses the saved settings, not unsaved text in the fields.
- Click Test connection and wait for the result.
- Enable the bot if needed, then start a new visitor conversation and ask a question whose answer is in that folder.
A stored API key is not displayed again. When editing other settings, leave the key field empty to retain the saved key. To replace it, enter the new key and save.
Expected result
Section titled “Expected result”The connection test succeeds, and a real visitor question receives an answer consistent with your published material. A successful connection test does not prove that your selected folder contains searchable answers: the connection probe does not test that folder scope.
After updating knowledge content, publish the changes, allow Marknest to make them searchable, and repeat the relevant question. Do not assume an immediate answer change just because you saved a source document.
If something fails
Section titled “If something fails”For a connection error, check the API service URL, key access, and service availability. If the connection succeeds but answers are missing, check publication status, folder ID, and whether the material actually answers the question. Continue with testing and troubleshooting.
